Quality checks before you accept delivery

• Ask for an automatic rescue device that brings the car to a floor in a power cut.
• Check safety gear, door sensors, overload alarm and emergency phone.
• Confirm AMC and spare parts availability in your city.
• Ask for the type-test certificate and inspectorate approval.
• Test the rescue device and alarm at handover by switching off mains.
• Doors must stay locked unless the car is at that floor.

Pro tips

• Finalise the lift maker before the foundation so the pit depth is right.
• Reserve the shaft size from the maker's drawing — commonly around 1.4 × 1.5 m for homes.
• Give the lift its own supply, MCB and earthing.
• Keep the AMC with the original maker for genuine parts.
• Keep the pit dry — water damages safety gear.

Mistakes to avoid

• Designing the staircase with no space left for a shaft.
• Skipping the rescue device — people get stuck during outages.
• Unlicensed local assembly without safety certification.
• Letting young children ride alone.
• Carrying loads above the rated capacity, like construction material.
