Lights and fans — price, types and what to check
LED lighting, BLDC fans and exhausts.
Lighting and fans run every day for years, so efficiency pays back fast. LEDs use far less power than old bulbs, and BLDC fans use less than half the power of regular ones.
The basics
- Colour temperature: 2700–3000 K warm for bedrooms, 4000 K neutral for kitchens, 6500 K cool for utility.
- BLDC fans draw 28–35 W against about 75 W for regular fans.
- Downlights and profile lights are planned together with the false ceiling.

Quality checks before you accept delivery
- Colour rendering (CRI) above 80, and 90 for living spaces.
- BEE star rating on fans.
- Ask for 2+ year warranty — the LED driver decides lifespan.
- Compare lumens per watt, not just watts.
- Look for the BIS registration mark on LED products.
- Spin a fan by hand — it should turn smoothly and silently.
Pro tips
- Target 150 lux for bedrooms, 300 for living rooms, 500 for kitchens and study.
- Fan blades should sit 2.3–2.5 m above the floor.
- Put cove lighting on its own circuit with a dimmer.
- Layer ambient, task and accent light in each room.
- Motion-sensor lights suit stairs and parking.
- Choose dimmable drivers if you plan to use dimmers.
- Keep one warm-light circuit in each room for evenings.
Mistakes to avoid
- Cool white everywhere — rooms feel clinical.
- Downlights directly over the bed.
- Cheap drivers that flicker.
- Mixing colour temperatures in one room.
- Recessed lights packed into POP without heat clearance.

- BLDC fans pay back their extra cost within a few years in busy rooms.
- Buy LED panels in one batch for uniform colour.
