Monsoon and summer
Practical lessons from Indian sites, for people building their own house.
- Try to finish foundation work and roof slabs before the monsoon.
- Store cement raised off the floor under tarpaulin, never against walls.
- Cover fresh concrete from heavy rain for the first few hours.
- In summer, pour concrete early morning or evening and cure for longer.
- Light surface rust on TMT is fine; flaky, pitted rust is not.
- Keep a dewatering pump ready for foundation trenches after rain.
