Site supervision
Practical lessons from Indian sites, for people building their own house.
- Visit daily or appoint a site engineer — mistakes are cheap only before concrete is poured.
- Before every pour, check bar sizes, spacing, cover blocks and lap positions.
- Watch concrete being mixed and count bags per batch.
- Photograph every concealed pipe and wire, with a tape measure in frame, before plaster.
- Make one person responsible for curing, every day, for the full period.
- Keep a site diary: work done, labour count, deliveries and problems.
